Being at the top of the hospitality industry means taking care of our guests and taking care of the planet too. At Pine Cliffs Resort we have implemented a range of measures to promote better sustainability with a focus on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and social responsibility. Our priorities include preserving natural resources, fostering circular economy, reducing the carbon footprint, minimizing waste and encouraging healthier lifestyles.
Our main goals for environmental sustainability
Energy Conservation
• Intelligent air conditioning system management and in-room climate control and public areas.
• Multiple on-going projects to implement systems that produce renewable energy (auto-consumption).
• We use LED lamps throughout the resort.
• Intelligent illumination systems and sensors.
Carbon Footprint
• Monthly monitoring of CO2 emissions.
• We have multiple charging stations for electric vehicles.
• We choose electric buggies in the resort. We are in the process of replacing all fossil fuel-powered buggies to new electric models.
• Our amenities and cleaning products are environment friendly.
• We replaced plastic bags, plastic straws, and plastic boxes for paper.
• Our guests may choose how often they want their towels & linen changed with the goal of reducing water expenditure.
• We provide and promote the use of bicycles and Segways in the resort.
Water Conservation
• We exclusively use water from boreholes to irrigate our gardens and golf course.
• All toilet flushes are limited to 6 liters.
• All taps have flow limiters thus reducing water wastage.
Waste reduction
• We proactively recycle all waste produce and forward to dedicated entities for further recycling.
• We only use paper from companies with official environmental certification.
• We promote both national and local products and produce.
• Our Pine Cliffs Resort Mobile APP (available for IOS and Android) permits guests to explore the Resort, and access digital newspapers and magazines.
Sustainability Awards
Sustainable at Heart
The “Save Water” Water Efficiency Seal, coordinated by the Algarve Tourism Region, Turismo de Portugal, and ADENE, and the “Green Key” program, recognizing sustainable tourism practices, coordinated by ABAE and FEE.
We take great pride in being a long-term Green Key holder with the support of the Marriott Environmental Sustainability Hub (MESH). All hotels are required to maintain a Carbon Footprint & RFP Reporting tool which is MESH (Marriott Environmental Sustainability Hub) supplied by Schneider Electric to capture and calculate carbon, energy, water, and waste consumption and spend and the Sustain Responsible Operations (SRO) Tracker at each hotel.
Making a difference
As an all-integrated resort managed by United Investments Portugal, we are proud to be part of “Somos Mais” a social responsibility program that operates as network, developing social projects with a positive impact on local communities. Solidarity meals, volunteering programs in local schools through the Junior Achievement Academy Project and fundraising events for local institutions are some of the actions we implement with passion and a strong team spirit.
Pine Cliffs Cats Village
Preserving a balanced ecosystem is a core part of our sustainability mission. For many years, our resort has been home to a cheerful colony of cats. All our feline friends are sterilized, and the colony is carefully monitored to ensure sanitary conditions, by Pine Cliffs Resort in collaboration with Associação Pata Ativa (Association for Animal and Nature Protection of Albufeira) and the Albufeira City Council. The animals receive prophylactic and medical care, ensuring they pose no health risk. We kindly ask guests not to feed them outside the designated area.
